Counter Intuitive Science

Heavy things fall as fast as light things. Solid objects are 99.9999% or more empty space. What we see as color is the reflection of light wavelengths.  Energy is mass and vice versa. It should matter not a jot or tittle what is true intuitively.  Skeptics know only what is shown and explained with models and math and experimentally derived data that can be trusted and replicated.  Our data is real, our concepts are, well, virtual or conceptual, mental or as I say Rational.  We can make models and draw them and explain them but we cannot trust our intuition to always see correctly.

By thinking we remove ourselves from our physical surroundings and instead inhabit a model of our surroundings characterized by names and understood with words.  We accept the earth is round but use a carpenter’s level and there is no contradiction.  We switch on a light with nary a thought toward the various human built systems constructed to light our world.  We conceptualize.  We build our worlds with words and models and data and equations and stories and accept the big picture as explained in a classroom.

When one reads the very first words of the most powerful ancient religious document which is accepted by all Abrahamic religions and is the basis for the vast majority of the worlds ancient, tradition wisdom we see it translated in to modern conceptual language as “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.  The educated world knew these words and the meaning was clear.

This began a famous story of an inspired humanity and is only relatively recently is that story questioned, discounted, and criticized as unclear,  unhelpful, an error.  Language changes and another translation of the words in that ancient sentence into modern English might be “Before the beginning the lord cut the form and the space” or any number of other translations could have happened had the story not been made so famous, so well known, so influential.  The story influenced the language instead of language reflecting the story.  So the story does not inform, but to religionists the Creation Story that began like this inspired millions to purposeful lives, inspired each to existentially make their own purpose clear

Our worlds are conceptual and our inspiration poetic, unclear, existential and individual.  Now humanity is more united than ever before. Our modern information is verifiable and accurate in ways even we can’t yet fit into a cohesive, universal world view.  Our emotions and feelings and intuition and physical experience cannot be trusted as we can trust the classroom model of our physical world.  We can verify and explain and use the information given us in schools and books and stories in ways un-imagined by the sources of ancient traditional wisdom.  We have data and models we can use for any purpose but our purpose is not clear.

Populations exist to procreate, we are told.  Biology tells us we preserve the species.  But humanity has reached a threshold.  We have evolved.  As a species we have advanced through random mutations to a united race of humans which have near universal access to arts and sciences.  We have evolved in 4000 years from wisdom derived from poetry to virtual wisdom easily accessible and verifiable. Our wisdom is collective, is trusted and documented and checked and very utilitarian. Each of us has access to information that gives us abilities to anything and everything, but what will we do?  That is not clear.
